I want to crop my Photo
You can easily crop your photo in a couple of ways. If you need to crop your photo with a specific set of dimensions of you're cropping on a whim you can use the Crop Panel to input custom values:
Input the cropping area
- Under Resolution, you can input the exact value you want the width or height of the cropping area to be
- Notice the Lock Icon in between both input fields. If its shown as locked, this means the aspect ratio between the width and height of the photo will remain. However, you can also click on the Lock icon if you wish to adjust separately the Width or Height
- You will notice as you adjust the values of the width and height, the crop box is shown on the Photo in real time
- Once you are happy with the dimensions and position of the cropping area, click on the Crop button. If you've changed your mind and you don't want to crop anymore you can always click the Cancel button or simply Close the crop panel altogether
- If you just Cropped your photo and you realised its not what you wanted to do -> Click the Undo button in the top right corner of the Editor (Left arrow icon). This will revert the cropping and bring you back to the original Photo size
Set crop area directly on the Photo
- When you open the Crop Panel, You will notice the Crop Box with handles show up on the image. It will show up wrapped around the Photo's border
- The Blue Squares you see are Handles that you can click and hold to move up, down, and perpendicular
- Notice as you are moving or adjusting the area of the crop box that the values for the Width and Height and Aspect Ratio is updated in real time
- You can also move the crop box anywhere inside the Project View
- Once you press the Crop button any part of the photo that was outside the Crop box will be cut off.
- You can always decide to Cancel the cropping or even Undo a crop you've just made. Just Click the Cancel button (Crop Panel) or the Undo Button (Top right corner)
I want to Crop my Photo that is a Layer
It's possible that you don't want to crop a single image but also Photos that were added to your project as Layers. It's safe to say that the Editor will allow you to crop any Photo you have in your Project as long as you have that Photo Selected
- Check the Layer Panel on the right side of the Editor
- Find the Photo you want to crop from the Layer Panel
- Notice if the Photo is already highlighted or selected (You'll see a darker background wrapping the preview thumbnail and the name of the Photo)
- Notice inside your Project Canvas that your Photo is wrapped with the Crop box
- Crop away!
What are the crop templates?
To make things easier for you we've added a library of preset crop templates. Most of these crop templates covers some of the most used Dimensions for printing photos or files (A4, Legal Paper, Cards), Social and Shop Images (Instagram, Etsy), and also most common Ratios (1:1, 1:2, etc)
- Click on the Browse Crop Templates button from the Crop Panel
- Browse through the list by toggling the scroll bar or your mouse wheel or you can search the crop templates by inputting a keyword
- If you notice any of the Crop templates are greyed out -> this means the crop template is too large for your image
- Click on any of the Crop templates to apply the crop box
What is "Crop Position"?
The Crop position allows you to quickly determine the alignment of the cropping box with the border of your Photo (Top/bottom, right/left, middle/center)
- By Default, the Crop Position will be Left / Top
- In the Crop Panel, click on any other position inside the position grid
- Clicking on any other position will move the cropping box to the alignment you have selected
What is the "Aspect Ratio"?
You will notice also that based on your image's resolution/dimension (Width/Height) that you will automatically get the Aspect Ratio.
The Aspect ratio helps determine, in simple terms, what is the shape of the crop box (Square /Lanscape/Portrait/Other). You may wants to keep your Image's Aspect Ratio at 1.5:1 (Landscape Shape) but change the dimensions to be bigger or smaller. |
