Project Dimensions

What is Project Dimensions?

Project Dimensions allows you to set the width and height of your Project. When you are ready to download or export your Project, those dimensions will set the size of the image/file. You will find Project Dimensions located in the Editor on the far left menu called Tools:

Open Project/Image -> Click Tools -> Project Dimensions

What is Add Custom Dimensions?

For Ribbet users that started editing a single image we make sure the Image size and the Project Dimensions are the same. So if you resize your image, the Project Dimensions will share the same Width and Height.

For more information you can see this page for more information: Add Custom Dimensions

If you see this when opening Project Dimensions, it means you started a project with an image and the project is getting the dimensions from it. Clicking on "Add Custom Dimensions" will allow you to add a custom Project Dimensions that is separate from that image.

I want to change my Project Dimensions

  1. You can change your Project Dimensions Inputting a new value for either the Width or Height Field
Click on either the Width or Height Fields and you can edit the value set for it

  1. Also, Notice the "Lock" icon between the Width and Height fields. This Lock icon will keep the Shape /Aspect Ratio.
This means The Width and Height of your Project Dimensions are Locked together. This allows you to keep the shape of your project intact while being able to change the value of those dimensions.

This means it's Unlocked. You will just need to click on the Locked icon to allow yourself to change independently the Width or Height however you deem fit.

What is Unit Type?

When working with the Ribbet Editor you can set the Unit type you want to use for the Dimensions of your Project, including any image/stickers/text. For example, for digital work Pixels is the Unit used. However, for Printing Photos and Artwork the Inches or Centimetres / Millimetres is the norm.

The Unit Type is set to PIXELS by Default. However, you can toggle the Unit type at any time and the Editor will convert the dimensions automatically

Please note that for any conversion between Pixels and other Unit type (EX: Pixels to Inches) we automatically apply a DPI of 125.

What is Aspect Ratio?

You will notice also that based on your Project's Dimensions (Width/Height) that you will automatically get the corresponding Aspect Ratio.

The Aspect ratio helps determine, in simple terms, what is the shape of the Project's Dimensions (Square /Landscape/Portrait/Other). You may wants to keep your project's Aspect Ratio at 1:1 (Square Shape) but change the dimensions to be bigger or smaller

When it comes to printing, the Resolution/Dimensions determines the quality of the printing VS the size of the paper. However, the Aspect Ratio represents the Photo's shape (Square, Landscape, Portrait or other).

It's important to note that Swap arrow icon between the Aspect Ratio fields let's you do just that: swap values between the Width and Height 🙂

Clicking on that swap arrow icon

Clicking the swap icon would allow for example to turn your Project from a Portrait to Landscape in a split second:

What is Preset Canvas Sizes?

Preset Canvas allows you to pick from popular or common Project Dimensions used for Digital Design or Printing Photos or Artwork.

You can pick and choose the template that works for you and then customise as well to your liking.

Why can't I set my Project Dimensions larger than 2048 PX

If you are a Ribbet user with a FREE Subscription, the maximum resolution for both Project Dimensions and Images is 2048 Pixels. To know if you have a Free account, you can quickly see that you have an "Upgrade" option in the top right corner on both the Editor and the Editor Homepage

The max limit of 2048 Pixels (Width and Height) is still good for Digital Assets OR For Personal Photo printing

Why can't I set my Project Dimensions larger than 4096 PX

For the purposes of creating a Project, the maximum dimensions is maximum 4096 Pixels. While we are working on extending this limit, we also need to take into account the performance and speed of the Editor.
